A big week for the Rank and File sparks.

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on April 3, 2012

This is big week for the ‘Rank and File’.
Combine meeting 5th April 11.30am Unite HQ Holborn.

At the combine meeting on Thursday 5th April our Rank and File elected reps will be pushing our 20 points, so all being will it’s these that will be used as a basis for talks in coming weeks.

The weekly protests continue in London and other areas around the country.

In London it’s at the shard target ‘The great agency rip off’ which must be stopped. Next protest is the 4th April, The Shard at 7am.

We hear protests might be starting in North East this week, please spread this across the country. Wherever there is an agency root them out and demand direct employment.

Union organised sites are the only way to go, with elected stewards and conveners on all sites.

The Shrewsbury pickets were at CCRC [court] today aiming to get a pardon and full investigation into the trial in 72. As Shrewsbury picket and only member of the ‘Royal family’ we support ‘Ricky Tomlinson’ would say “Justice my arse”.

The Rank and File pass on our support and solidarity to them.

Labour has lost a safe seat and it’s soul. Time for the Trade Unions to think again about it’s funding.

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 30, 2012

Press release: Press release: Press release: Immediate 30/03/2012

Respect party’s George Galloway’s has scored a truly remarkable bye election victory in ‘Labours safe seat’ of Bradford West. Winning by an amazing 10.000 votes should send a message to the Con- Dem coalition, but also to Labour and the Trade Unions that fund them to them unconditionally, to the hilt.

Galloway’s mantra was ‘Bring the troops home from Afghanistan’: ‘No to the privatisation of the NHS’: ‘End the attacks on pensions, jobs and services’: ‘Tax the rich: Make the Banking bosses pay for the crisis which was of their own making’.

Jerry Hicks said “Labour [New or not] you’ve not just lost a ‘safe seat’ but more importantly you’ve lost your soul. You should look up the word ‘opposition”.

I say [Jerry Hicks] “The time has come for Unite the union to stop immediately throwing £10 millions of pounds of  members money at Labour for nothing in return”.

“We must only fund Labour MP’s and councils who support our policies, only those that back us when we are fighting to defend our jobs services. And most importantly, only those who will repeal all of anti union laws”.

ENDS: Notes to editors:

1) Jerry Hicks came runner up in the 2010 election for Unites General Secretary with 52,527 votes and is thought of by many as being the alternative voice within Unite.

Grass Roots Left Bulletin update March 28th

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 28, 2012

Grassroots Left Bulletin March 28th

Independent of the Union machine – Free from the control of ‘appointed’ officials
– Reclaiming the union/s for the members.

Please consider becoming a member and/or make a donation.
See forms attached for details. Standing orders/Membership/ Donations
Treasurer, Grassroots Left, 8 Caversham Road, Kingstanding, Birmingham B44 0LN.

1] Unite LGBT NEC result: The phrase ‘Party in a brewery’ springs to mind!
Grass Roots Left candidate Lesley Mansell came a close second in the recent Unite election for the LGBT post on the union’s executive.
Votes cast and %
Mansell 16,083 [ 25.7%]
McaNulty 17,275 [27.6%]
Wadwell 14,270 [22.8%]
Weissensteiner 11,592 [18.5%]
Spoilt papers: 3,445 [5.5%]
Turnout 62,665 [approx 5% of total membership]

However, 4 branches that had nominated Lesley Mansell were wrongly credited to Mcanulty and all 4 appeared alongside his election address which was sent with the ballot papers to every member, giving a completely false impression of nomination totals. We have discovered that no other candidate had any such errors! Lesley has submitted a complaint through the internal procedures challenging the legitimacy of the result. If the response is not satisfactory we will be progressing the case to the Certification Office.

2] GRL media breakthrough. Jerry Hicks on BBC TV and Radio:
Please Click on the link to view ‘Sunday’s Politics show’. Skip to 42 minutes for the start of item on Privatisation, Strikes & Trade unions [Jerry at 45 minutes 40 seconds]

3] Next Grass Roots Left NEC: This Saturday 31st March, The Cock Tavern, Near Euston Station, London 12 to 4pm. Everyone welcome [though only elected NC can vote].

4] Simpson’s £’sss severance. We received no response from either the Unite General Secretary or from the Trustees. However, there may be some bad news, in that Unite NEC has ‘accepted’ a report on the matter of the severance. Which may validate the payment!

5] Rank and File ‘sparks’. An amazing struggle & a remarkable victory. February saw the culmination of a 6 month battle against the rogue employers who had sought to impose the BESNA agreement and with it a %35 pay cut. The result was a remarkable victory for the sparks Rank and File. One by one the 8 rogue BESNA firms were brought to their knees falling like dominoes. The bosses were hit by the industrial equivalent to a tsunami.

6] GRL extend a send a message of support and solidarity to GE. GE aviation are the latest to be involved in a struggle to defend their pensions from attack by the employer. You’ll recall the GRL Neil Armitage [GE] stood for as a NEC candidate.

7] UCATT General Secretary Election: Mick Dooley is at the ‘Certification Officer’ re: being debarred from standing. On April 18th and 19th in London we will keep you updated.

And finally, What’s in a name? Tory treasurers, new and old: Crud[as]= dirty substance: Fink = contemptible person: P.S. Cleg[g] = horsefly and you know what they pitch on!

Join the growing number of people who want to get the union/s back.
Be part of the Grassroots Left

Where others may fear to tread. The Rank and File will bodly go.

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 26, 2012

Where others may fear to tread
The Rank and File construction workers will boldly go.

Looks like Trade Union leaders have lost their bottle again, with the 28th March ‘Public Sector Pensions Fight’ being a bit of a damp squid.

But if nothing else happens on the 28th March…………. ‘Rank and File’ construction workers will be protesting as always. In London it will be at the Shard, London Bridge 7am.

The weekly protests are over the lack of direct employment. Nearly all building workers are forced to work for dodgy agencies, pay rates are well below the national agreed rates, no sick pay, no holiday pay and used and abused and sacked without a minutes notice.

If your unions not on strike on Wednesday, why not come and join the ‘Rank and File’ construction workers, it’s always lively and there might even be a bit of the TUC supported ‘Civil Disobedience’. We really look forward to seeing the appointed TUC General Secretary Mr Brendan Barber there!!!!!

First Combine meeting next week.

On the 5th April is the first combine meeting proper after the elections and the ‘Rank and File are well represented it’s at Unite HQ Holborn at 1130am.

Blacklisting publicity continues to go well thanks to the ‘blacklisting support group.’

Michael Meacher and John Mcdonnel have raised the issue of ‘blacklisting’ in Parliament.

It’s going well in Europe and here in the High Court where a case has been lodged. We’ve also had coverage on BBC Bristol TV and Radio with Jerry Hicks.

Show your support and solidarity for Rank and file stalwart Mick Dooley.

Mick Dooley is still under the cosh from UCATT and has court cases pending, the first being on the 18th and 19th April. Any support for Mick is most welcome, and donations to a fighting fund would be great.

Please make cheques payable to ‘Friends of Mick Dooley’ send to address 27 Surbiton Road, Southend on Sea, Essex; SS2 4NR

Finally, for now: The new edition of the ‘siteworker’ is out, so if you want some sent to you contact siteworkers@virginmedia.com and we will post them to you.

That nice warm feeling is not due to the budget!

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 22, 2012

That nice warm feeling is not due to the budget. When someone is peeing down the back of on your leg you certainly notice the trickle down effect.

The 1980’s Thatcher / Reagan ‘Reward the rich’ trickledown economics was a deliberate and cynical ‘con job’.

So too here it is again with Boy George [Osborne] in collaboration with the gruesome twosome Dick Dastardly [Cameron] and Mutley [Clegg].

Don’t take my word for it though: See Larry Elliott The Guardians economics editor #guardian.co.uk/budget

The ‘Rank and File’ won the BESNA battle. Now let’s go on and win the war.

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 20, 2012

The ‘Rank and File’ won the BESNA battle.
Now let’s go on and win the war.

At the weekend ‘Rank and File’ meetings were held in England and Scotland, with Wales meeting this coming Saturday.

In Manchester round 100 sparks and supporters discussed the 20 points that form ‘our agenda’ for any future talks with the bosses.

There was an excellent atmosphere at the meeting with a good discussion especially regarding appointed convenors on sites. This will have to end in our union and be replaced with elected reps.

There was a lot of discussion about agencies, it was agreed that a priority must be given to rooting them [agencies] out of our industry.

It was reported to the meeting that in London last week there was a protest at the Shard, with the focus on the lack of direct employment. Well over 50 demonstrated and leafleted.

Agencies are the scourge of the industry, exploiting workers, these agencies pay under the rate, no holiday pay, no sick pay and they fire us at will.

Mace has loads of sites in London and T Clarke are the main contractor being used by Mace, these protests will continue weekly.

We urge everyone to do the same in your areas. Let’s send the message out loud and clear ‘No agencies wanted’ ‘Direct employment only!’

This will build our organisation and make it easier to recruit people into the Union, plus we then elect stewards on all sites. All of which will help to bring about an end to blacklisting.

‘Rank and File have a seat at the table’.

On the 14th march there was a combine meeting held in London, which at times became quite heated! The result however was 7 Rank and File were elected onto the combine along with site stewards.

The next step will be negotiations with the companies in the JIB, this will be with full involvement of the Rank and File. Regular reports backs are an absolute must to avoid any sweetheart deals or sell outs.

Protests/Demos that we are aware of this week……………………

Wednesday 21st March 7am: London: The Shard, London Bridge. [Direct employment for all].

Friday 23rd March 7am: Glasgow: New South, Glasgow, Hospital. [Against the use of non sparks and demand for Unite representation].

Monday 26th March 7.30pm: Hartlepool: Belle Vue Social Club.

All in all just another momentous week for the Rank and File. Together ‘united’ we will win and reclaim our union and our industry.

The dastardly ‘Whacky Race’ to NHS Privatisation

Posted by jerryhicks4gs on March 20, 2012

The dastardly ‘Whacky Race’ to Privatisation of the NHS

Does anyone remember ‘Whacky Races’? Now there is a new version, and it’s called ‘Whacky Politicians’.

Starring David  Cameron as  Dick Dastardly, with his faithful sidekick Nick Clegg as Mutley.

But the question is though, is Ed Milliband going to be Peter Perfect?

Shout it loud and shout it proud, Labour tell us you will reverse the NHS reforms.

And while your at it tell us you will bring back the higher rate of tax for the wealthy.
